The Healthcare program embodies the Foundation’s projects in the area of healthcare in the Ust-Labinsk region – and aims to create the necessary means for general access to quality healthcare, to support and develop preventative medicine and to promote healthy lifestyles and early disease detection.
As part of this program, the Foundation provides systematic aid to hospitals in Moscow and other regions, aid that allows them to purchase modern medical equipment, surgical instruments and pharmaceuticals.
The S.V. Ochapovsky First Regional Clinical Hospital in Krasnodar
In 2005 the Center for Chest Surgery (created in 2002 by the Krasnodar Krai Governor Alexei Tkachev) became part of the S.V. Ochapovsky First Regional Clinical Hospital. During the three years of its operation the Center had substantially increased the number of cardiological operations and had become one of the leading cardiological centers in the country.
During the very same period the region witnessed an increase in pathology - including early childhood pathologies – that required operative treatment. The necessary pre-operative tests were conducted on a single angiography machine. Excessive use of the machine led to constant breakage, which in some occasions would lead to day-long interruptions in the operational schedule.
In order to solve this on-line diagnostics issue and increase the number of treated patients, the Volnoe Delo Foundation donated a Somatom Sensation 64 body scanner to the Regional Hospital. The body scanner was the first of its kind to ever be operated in Russia. The machine requires 33 seconds to receive all the required diagnostic information – thus eliminating the need for invasive methods, something which is especially important in the examination of infant patients.
The use of the body scanner has allowed to significantly increase the number of express diagnostics patients.
Amidst the abnormal heat wave of 2010, when the number of strokes and heart attacks was on the rise, the Krasnodar Regional Hospital lost their only angiography X-ray tube, which was absolutely vital for the treatment of emergency cases. A routine state-organized tender would have left the hospital without a angiography machine for 40 to 60 days, a shortage that would have been fatal for approximately 200 patients. The Volnoe Delo Foundation reacted swiftly and donated the expensive spare X-ray tube to the hospital.
Ongoing support for medical institutions in Russia
Since 2004 the Foundation has backed the purchase of medical equipment, surgical instruments and pharmaceuticals to such institutions as the Child Hematology Research Institute, the Moscow Family Planning and Reproduction Center, the №13 Filatov Clinical City Hospital and the Moscow Region Psychoneurological Children’s Hospital.
In ***, with the support of the Foundation, the First Clinical Hospital in Archangelsk purchased a modern supersonic scanner. And the very same year the Foundation helped repair and renovate the Novodvinsk Central City Hospital’s in-patient hospital.
Anti-HIV/AIDS Program
Over 9000 people have taken part in the Foundation’s Anti-HIV/AIDS program – conducted in partnership with the Caring Heart Charity, the Krasnodar Krai administration, the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the Television and Radio Association of Kuban, Yuga.ru and Kuban.info.
The interactive seminars, contests, the activity of the Volunteer School and extensive media coverage of the program succeed in raising the level of HIV/AIDS awareness (as well as the importance of regular diagnostics) amongst high school students, university students, educators, social workers, psychologists and parents.
